Josh Sussberg is a partner in the restructuring practice group of Kirkland & Ellis and is a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee.

Josh is consistently recognized as one of the country’s leading restructuring lawyers and was most recently ranked Band 1 both in New York and Nationwide by Chambers USA, America’s Leading Lawyers for Business in 2022. He was praised for his “excellent business acumen, client focus and responsiveness, and his ability to maintain calm in the midst of chaos and under great pressure.”

In the 2022 edition of The Legal 500, Josh was described as “a tenacious dealmaker and gifted courtroom advocate.” Sources noted “you want Josh on your side of the negotiating table when faced with the thorniest restructuring issues. Josh has exceptional judgement and maintains a unique ability to work together with opposing parties to form consensus and resolve matters.”

Josh was recognized by The Deal as the 2021 Debtor Counsel of the Year (Large Cap), a Law360 2021 MVP, and a “Market Leader” in the 2021 IFLR1000.

Bloomberg Law News reported in October 2022, that “Josh Sussberg is possibly the most ubiquitous bankruptcy attorney in the US, appearing often in courts from New York to Texas.”

Numerous publications have recognized Josh as a “Consumer/Retail Lawyer of the Year.” He has represented retailers such as J. C. Penney Company, Macy’s, Tailored Brands, Express, California Pizza Kitchen, Belk, Toys R Us, Forever 21, Pier 1, Barney’s New York, BCBG, Z Gallerie, Alex & Ani, and AllSaints.

He is currently representing Celsius Network and Voyager Digital Holdings, two of the largest cryptocurrency platforms in the world, as well as Cineworld Group, parent company of Regal Entertainment Group and second-largest cinema chain in the world, in their Chapter 11 cases.

He is a frequent speaker and writer on restructuring related topics.

He is involved with the Bankruptcy and Restructuring Committee of UJA-Federation of New York and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

He earned his B.S. from Syracuse University and J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.
