Lon A. Jenkins currently serves as the Standing Chapter 13 Trustee for the District of Utah, having been appointed to that position in September 2015. A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Jenkins received a B.A.from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1976. Thereafter, he attended the University of Utah College of Law, receiving his J.D. in 1983. While at the College of Law, Lon served as a member of the Utah Law Review. Following law school, Lon worked as an associate in the nationally recognized bankruptcy group of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & MacRae in the firm’s Salt Lake City office. While there, he worked with and was mentored by former U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Ralph R. Mabey and in 1993, Lon became a partner in the firm. During his time at LeBoeuf, Lamb, Lon specialized primarily in Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganizations, representing a wide range of debtors, creditors, creditors’ committees, trustees and indenture trustees. Upon departing LeBoeuf Lamb after 23 years in 2006, Mr. Jenkins continued his bankruptcy practice in the Salt Lake City law firm of Ray, Quinney & Nebeker (2006-2008). While there he was appointed by the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah as receiver in two federal Ponzi scheme cases to recover and administer assets for the benefit of defrauded investors. Subsequently, Mr. Jenkins was a shareholder at Jones Waldo (2008-2013) and an Of Counsel member of Minneapolis-based Dorsey & Whitney (2013-3015). During his 39 years of law practice, Mr. Jenkins has been a frequent speaker and educational program panelist, both nationally and locally, on a variety of bankruptcy related topics. He also is engaged in community and civic organizations in the Salt Lake City area, participating on various non-profit boards and committees. Presently, Mr. Jenkins serves as Vice-President of the Executive Board of the National Association of Chapter 13 Trustees and will assume the role of President-Elect of the organization in July 2023. In his spare time, Lon enjoys running, tennis, golf and outdoor activities of all kinds, as well as spoiling his 8 grandchildren.
