Michelle H. Bass is a partner at Wolfson Bolton Kochis PLLC, where she manages the consumer bankruptcy practice group. Michelle represents both debtors and creditors in consumer bankruptcy proceedings. She has represented individuals reorganizing under Chapter 11, including Sub Chapter V, specializing in high-net-worth individuals and small business owners. She has been extremely successful in practice stopping foreclosures, stripping secured liens, and cramming down loans on collateral for individuals seeking to reorganize under Chapters 13 and 11. She has successfully defended appeals in the Federal Eastern District for the State of Michigan and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Michelle is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Detroit Consumer Bankruptcy Association, the Oakland County Bar Association, and is board certified in consumer bankruptcy law. Michelle currently serves as the Education Director for ABI’s Ethics and Professional Compensation committee, she previously chaired ABI’s Consumer Bankruptcy Committee from 2021-2022 and served in various committee leadership roles from 2019-2022. She served on ABI’s 40 under 40 Steering Committee from 2023 to 2025. Michelle also chaired the Michigan IWIRC Network from 2017-2021. Michelle serves on the planning committees for the Western District of Michigan Federal Bar Association Bankruptcy Section Seminar, and the Steven W. Rhodes Consumer Bankruptcy Seminar. She has been named by Michigan Lawyer’s Weekly as one of 2019’s 30 Women in the Law, recognized by Crain’s Detroit as one of 2021’s Notable Women in the Law, by Best Lawyers in America, 2023-2025 for Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights / Insolvency and Reorganization Law, and named to DBusiness magazine’s 2025 Top Lawyers list in the category of Bankruptcy & Creditor/Debtor Rights Law.
