2018 American College of Bankruptcy Fourth Circuit Moot Court Event

Monday, February 19, 2018

The Education Committee of the Fourth Circuit is pleased to announce we will follow in the footsteps of other circuits and offer a 2018 American College of Bankruptcy Fourth Circuit Moot Court event.

The moot court will be held on Monday, February 19, from 1 p.m. - 6 p.m, at the American Bankruptcy Institute, 66 Canal Center Plaza, Suite 600, Alexandria, VA 22314 .

We anticipate one preliminary round with each team presenting arguments for the petitioner and the respondent, one final round, and a reception. Teams do not need to submit briefs.

The event is open to all law schools from the Fourth and D.C. circuits.

We have preliminary interest from Campbell, George Washington, Georgetown and the University of Maryland law schools.

Click here to view our team application---we ask that schools interested in competing indicate that interest by December 15.

The competition will involve the same commercial law fact pattern as used for the Duberstein Moot Court Competition: http://www.stjohns.edu/law/center-bankruptcy-studies/duberstein-moot-court-competition

Law schools may compete, at no cost, in the circuit regional whether or not they plan to compete in the Duberstein.

The committee is grateful to Sam Gerdano for proposing and supporting this venture, and to Sam and Fellows Rick Mikels and Trish Redmond for their guidance.

Please let any of the committee know if you:

  •    wish to coach a team
  •    wish to judge the competition
  •    wish to observe the competition

Please help us spread the word about this competition!
