Advocates from the 4th Circuit's Moot Court Event

The Education Committee of the Fourth Circuit is pleased to announce a 2020 American College of Bankruptcy Fourth Circuit Moot Court event. Please see the link below to download an application packet. The moot court will be held on Monday, February 17, at McGuireWoods, 2001 K Street, N.W., DC, from 9 a.m. though 3:15 p.m.

Applications are due December 14, 2019.

We anticipate three preliminary rounds with each team presenting arguments for the petitioner and the respondent, one final round, and a group lunch. Teams do not need to submit briefs.  Teams who have not prepared the brief required for the Duberstein, however, might be disadvantaged in preparing their arguments.

Interested in joining us to watch the moot court?

We expect the final round to begin around 2 p.m.  Contact Education Committee Member Beth Wiggins, bwiggins@fjc.gov to let her know your interest in attending the final round and in toasting all the advocates after the final round.

The competition will involve the same commercial law fact pattern as used for the Duberstein Moot Court Competition:

Law schools may compete, at no cost, in the circuit regional whether or not they plan to compete in the Duberstein. Teams from American, Campbell, George Washington, Howard and Wake Forest law schools have already expressed some interest in participating.

Please help us spread the word about this competition!
